Oh Brother... Another PC Defection??

I just read in the Projo that the rumor is that DeSean White will be the next player to leave the PC Hoops program.

"Player attrition has been a constant issue during Welsh's eight years as the Providence College coach. During his tenure, 20 players have left the program with eligibility remaining. Counting White, 5 of the 20 were on the roster last year at this time." Link to Article

Does Timmy have some compromising pictures of Fr. Shanley?? All I know is that in the "real world", when your employees (in this instance college basketball players) leave the company because if differences with their boss (T. Welsh) the powers that be see a pattern and get rid of the root of the problem which is of course Tim Welsh.

I assume a big part of this is that the freshman are outperforming some of the returning players. Geoff McDermott is a force. Sharad Curry can light it up. Where it appears Tim Welsh is failing is convincing players of their roles. Some players egos are too big for their own good, but geez... 20 players in eight years have left with eligibility remaining. That's just not right!

A-Rod Says He Played Like a Dog and Smells Like One Too
(Associated Press) 10/11/05

While the entire Yankee organization will have a lot of criticism to respond to this off-season, one Yankee that will have to answer many of the critical questions is Alex Rodriguez.

"I played great baseball all year, and I played like a dog the last five days. I can't put it into words. This is as low as it gets. I felt good, I saw the ball well," Rodriguez said. "If I would have contributed some, maybe we would be moving on to Chicago."

This maybe true, but many people wonder if he may have played better with a little more positive reinforcement, such as a Milkbone or two."

Ceasar Milan, famed dog behaviorist and star of National Geographic's show, "The Dog Whisperer" has some advice for Yankees management. "Positive reinforcement isn't always the way to get a dog like A-Rod to produce in crucial times. Sometimes when dogs have an ego as big as Alex Rodriguez, they just need a good kick in the ass to show them whose boss."

Maybe Joe Torre should have been waiting for A-Rod with a rolled up newspaper after he hit into a crucial double-play in the ninth inning.

The question remains if Alex Rodriguez will lift is leg and leave his mark on the Yankee organization with a World Series Championship or is he just going to take a big dog dump on the whole thing?

Looting and Finding Food
It Makes You Wonder....
These photos were taken from the same slide show on Yahoo! News. It makes you wonder if this is intentional. It probably wasn't. It's just really sad.

I turned 30 a few weeks back. I guess some would say it's a milestone. However, in this day and age, who cares? Thirty years ago I probably would be married with 2.5 kids thinking about buying my next Buick. These days, I feel like I'm still figuring things out. I think that's OK.

So what do I have to look forward to? Well... the Red Sox open against the Yankees in less than a week! :-) I look forward to going home tonight and watching 24. I look forward to some warmer weather on the horizon. Basically, I look forward to some pretty simple things. I kind of like it that way.

I was reading this article today (http://www.projo.com/pc/content/projo_20050313_13pcwrap.21e4f32.html) about PC’s obvious need. The article spoke of getting better talent to compete in the new 16 team league. However, there is a paragraph that is interesting:

It's easy to say that PC's problems are all about a lack of talent beyond All-American Ryan Gomes and have little to do with coaching. That's incorrect. West Virginia's roster isn't much better than PC's but its coach, John Beilein, coached the pants off Welsh and many other Big East mentors all season. He's the reason why the Mountaineers will play in the NCAA's this week.

Doesn’t that basically say that a team with similar talent beat the pants off of PC because we were out coached? I would love to get a big time point guard that can take guys off the dribble and sink floaters in the lane, but what hope do we have when our team finishes under .500?

Red Sox are Champs?!?!
I was watching Sportscenter this morning and they referred to the Boston Red Sox as World Champs. I was stunned. Yet, the description was true. The Red Sox ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPS!! I'm in an unfamiliar position here. The Red Sox are actually the World Champs!

If that wasn't enough of a surprise, I received an e-mail from the Red Sox today confirming that I was selected to purchase tickets for the various Yankees vs Red Sox series this season! I feel like Bill Simmons right now. This stuff never happens to me. Is it an omen? Time will tell.

I am more than excited for Spring Training to start. Real baseball is almost here!

Necessary Measures?

What's wrong with this picture?

This is what it looked like on some of the streets of Boston last night during and after the Superbowl. In the last year, two people have been killed during post game celebrations. Both were essentially innocent bystanders in the malee that ensued after last year's Patriots Superbowl victory and this past October's victory over the Yankees. I understand that Boston does not want the reputation of a city that is not safe for its citizens. But the image above is a bizarre scene.

Has it come to this? Why do people feel the need to destroy things in the name of celebration?

I guess I'll never understand it.
