Apparently, Mr. Martinez is surprised that there is backlash from media and fans about his statement that he is breaking off contract negotiations with the Red Sox until after the season. Maybe if Pedro said that he is breaking off contract negotiations because he wants to concentrate on winning a World Series, people would have been more amenable to his comments. Instead he decided to make a bunch of blanket comments that had very little truth to them.
"Martinez, dismayed by the backlash against him after he cut off contract talks, does not plan to speak publicly again this season to the Boston media. He kept a promise to a number of reporters to share his feelings about the negotiations once they ended, and he felt blindsided by the reaction . .."

Well Pedro, just shut up and play. If you want the big money, be dominant. Don't get lit up by Texas the day after you make statements about your contract.
