Once again, I am a little confused about this week's NCAA Basketball Polls. I'm not sure what it is, but it seems like the Associated Press and the Coaches poll need a mid-major darling to be enamored with. It was Creigton for most of the season and now it's Southern Illinois. Don't get me wrong, the Salukies might be a very good team, but it is hard to tell. There is no proof of how good they are.
So they have a 19 - 2 record.
OK.
But who have they beaten?
They have played nobody who ranks in the RPI top 25, they are 1 - 1 against teams who are in the RPI 26 - 50, and they are 3 - 1 against teams in the RPI 51 - 100. It seems kind of arbitrary that the Associated Press and the Coaches would vault the Salukies into the top 25 based on their win total alone.
